Penny McPeak | Artist, Photographer, Poet
Penny's background began in the storytelling business: she grew up with a camera in her hands from an early age, learning how to roll film, and adjust the camera manually to capture the story happening in front of her eyes. Her undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Randolph-Macon Woman's College. Her senior thesis "Norma Loquendi" consisted of (35) poems in reflection of the natural environment. The title poem won the Academy of American Poets award. After graduating, she found herself on the front page of The (Lynchburg) News & Advance (literally) and was offered a copy editing / newspaper design job there several months later.
For 2.5 years, Penny wrote headlines, edited copy and designed newspaper fronts and interior pages for papers all across Virginia and border cities in North Carolina. While at The News & Advance, Penny rediscovered her love for unique stories and the photo imagery that helped tell them. Penny's heart pulled her back to her hometown of Columbia, SC where Penny & Lucy Lou Art was inspired from conversations with her business partner Pam, and four-legged companion, Lulie (aka Lucy Lou).
